3D Sofa

Description

The purpose of this assignment is to use SketchUp and draw a piece of furniture object based on 2D dimensioned drawings. You will use architectural units (feet and inches), and start by drawing the 2D linework to create surfaces and then push/pull the surfaces to complete the object.

Objectives/Outcomes and Assessment Criteria

  • Demonstrate an understanding of SketchUp through the generation of an architecturally-related modeling assignment.

  • Download a PNG file of the model.

  • Demonstrate craftsmanship as manifest through precision of the drawing.

  • Document completed assignments in a digital format and archive those digital artifacts in MIro and Google Drive.

General Instructions to begin the drawing

Make sure you created your free SketchUp account. This assignment will be completed using the free web-based version of SketchUp.

1. Create a new file using the Architectural - Feet & Inches Template

Create New File

2. In the top left corner, click on the Open Model/Preferences Icon

Model/Preferences Menu

3. Click on Save as, and save the file as firstinitiallastname descriptive name of furniture.skp (you will not see the extension until you download the file).

Note: the file is saved to the SketchUp cloud folder.

4. Watch the step-by-step tutorial to successfully complete your drawing.

5. You now have a completed SKP file. Save and close the SketchUp file.

6. Upload the PNG file to your Google Drive for evaluation. Upload the PDF file to the Miro board for evaluation.
