Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in ARCHITC 123 and ARCHITC 171, AND Grade of C or better OR concurrent enrollment in ARCHITC 266, or Consent of Department Chairperson.
Software: Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign
Design and compilation of an architectural portfolio for employment and transfer. Preparation of materials that supplement the portfolio. Overview of interview protocols and processes. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course.
The intent of this course is to provide students with opportunities to:
Understand the portfolio as an evolving body of work that reflects ideas, skills and talents.
Use software applications to produce a cohesive and unified portfolio document that demonstrates a breadth of skills, evidence of problem solving abilities, and an understanding of design principles.
Interpret the requirements of a portfolio for an academic or professional application and produce a document that responds appropriately to those constraints.
Impart a sense of craftsmanship in the presentation of work.
Produce the supporting documentation that commonly accompanies a portfolio of visual work.
Acquire the skills necessary to successfully interact during an academic or professional interview.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
Research and analyze design portfolio formats and assembly techniques.
Develop a clearly structured format and assembly technique for a portfolio of visual work.
Select a collection of work from a personal archive that is appropriate for a specific audience.
Implement image editing software for the refinement of images and desktop publishing software for the layout of content.
Organize content into a logically-sequenced, graphically-clear document.
Concisely articulate narratives and descriptions to support the visual work.
Demonstrate a sense of craftsmanship manifest through neatness and care in the assembly of a portfolio document.
Generate a resume, personal statement, cover letter and list of references that follow standard formatting practices. Writing shall use English grammar that reflects an understanding of the basic structures and functions of language.
Demonstrate preparedness for an academic or professional interview..
