There is a special event planned for the sketching group this week. There will be a watercolor workshop delivered by Jenny Jing Zhang.
Jenny is an Architectural designer, urban sketcher, and illustrator. She has extensive experience in art as well as teaching art. In 2013, she graduated with a Master's degree in Architecture from Texas A&M University and worked full time as an architectural designer at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture from 2013 to 2022. Jenny was selected to be one of the instructors at Urban Sketchers Chicago seminar in 2019 and 2022. Her work has been exhibited at Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts, BLICK art show and included in the book ‘The World of Urban Sketching’ in press.
Workshop Description: 'Less is More' is an adage from the famous modern architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe that describes his minimalist philosophy. Applied to the sketching world, 'when to stop' is always a question that confuses sketchers. A few simple lines, composed effectively, can resonate with expression and meaning. In my workshop, I will unveil the secret of 'when to stop'. By explanation and demonstration, we will together explore the power of 'less in lines' and experience how contrast can help you compose a sketch.
Needed Materials: The workshop will mainly focus on the ink linework and a wash of watercolor. Please bring the following items,
Sketchbook – watercolor papers are preferred
Ink pen – either Micron pens or fountain pen with waterproof ink
Watercolor palette and water brush.
Tubes of Daniel Smith watercolor and paper plates will be provided. Participants could bring their own empty palette or choose to use the paper plate.
We’ll meet at 5:30 at the northwest corner of N Dearborn St and W Walton St, facing the Harvest Bible Chapel.
